Each community is unique, but there are patterns everywhere in elements like the size of a block or the width of a sidewalk. Metrics that have been tested over time can become standards that help a community reach its goals  more quickly. We believe in the value of metrics and study those we see in the field and those identified through national research for applicability within our codes where appropriate.
